RAIL SERVICES
Totnes Railway Station is located to the north-west of Totnes and lies approximately 1.5km walking distance from your home. The station is situated on the Exeter to Plymouth line and is operated by First Great Western. It takes approximately half an hour by train to get to both Exeter and Plymouth.
Approximately half of the services are operated by Great Western Railways, including main line services from London Paddington Station to Plymouth and Penzance. CrossCountry operate trains through Birmingham and beyond.
Information on train times and fares can be obtained from National Rail Enquiries – Tel. 03457 48 49 50 www.nationalrail.co.uk. The best value tickets, particularly for longer distance travel, can usually be secured by booking in advance, although local off-peak tickets, particularly when bought using a railcard (see below), can be relatively cheap.
Young Persons’ Railcard
If you are aged between 16 and 25 then you are eligible to buy a 16-25 Railcard. Mature students over the age of 26 can also apply provided they are in full-time education.
The railcard currently costs £30 and enables savings of one third on all rail fares throughout Great Britain for a period of one year. It is eligible for use anytime on weekends, Public Holidays and during the week (not before 10am, Monday to Friday). A 3 year 16-25 railcard costing £70 can also be purchased online.
